Menifee, Riverside County
Menifee is named for Luther Menifee Wilson, a miner who found gold-bearing quartz in the area in the 1880s. The mines did not last, and the valley was farmed for most of the next century. Today the city sits within a short drive of Lake Perris, Diamond Valley Lake and Canyon Lake, with Mount San Jacinto on the eastern horizon.
